PDP RealmZ - Sonic Controller & Headset

Hello Luminaries,

I am excited to share a product I have been working on over the course of the last 12-months or so, a novel gaming product part of our new line of controllers and headsets, aptly named RealmZ. Our first IP we partnered with is with SEGA their IP Sonic the Hedgehog.

The general controller design is based off one of our older controller designs, the Nintendo Switch Rock Candy, but everything was scaled up for a more ergonomic fit into the general gamer hands. I designed the internals and external designs of the controller completely in Keyshot, with quite a few different iterations to get to the final product you see here.

The headset is a novel design that we never made before. We started from scratch on the form factor and once we settled on the headset geometry, I designed the headset within Keyshot to get to the final product we have here.

This product has definitely been challenging with so much transparency and as many that frequent the Luminaries forum has seen a lot of posts of me trying to problem solve transparency issues, but overall, I think we figured out most the problems, albeit some work arounds required.

Anyways, if anyone here happens to be attending Gamescom convention, you will have an opportunity for first hand experience with this new product line. We are just getting starting and many more different IPs and designs to come!

Awesome and congratulations on the partnership with SEGA, cool! Personally I love a bit cleaner look, but I’m terribly old, but I think it’s amazing how you guys use transparency more to actually use the inside of an object as a kind of display.

I can imagine it being a hit since Sonic does have a big share of fans

Such a cool project, love seeing stuff like this and the design is awesome! The transparent materials in the headset look really good so great job with that!

Thanks Oscar! The idea was to have a collectable figurine, but also something that is function aside from just a display piece on a shelf. It is always nice to have dual functionality

Thanks a bunch Marina! Transparent alphas seem to be an issue that most 3D software have an issue handling. Glad it is all finally coming together.
